CNIT offers 7 research contracts

CNIT is an Inter-University Consortium with legal personality recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research, which includes 37 Italian universities with the aim of conducting research and advanced training in the field of Telecommunications.

Under the framework of the project "Architectures of Optical Networks and Nodes for high-capacity transmission and access-metro-core transport based on integrated photonic technologies - ARNO-T3" PAR FAS 2007-2013 Action 1.1 P.I.R. 1.1.B funded by the Tuscany Region. Reference R&D Strategic Projects on ICT and advanced mechanics, D.D. 3064/2010 and D.D. 3375/2010,

CNIT offers

7 contracts as 1-year project researcher

to be held at the National Laboratory on Photonic Networks or at the CNIT research units in Pisa

in the following research areas:

AT THE NATIONAL LABORATORY OF PHOTONIC NETWORKS IN PISA

Optical network architectures and services

Cod. ARNO 01/012

Fiber-optic communication systems

Cod. ARNO 02/012

Optical communication theory and techniques

Cod. ARNO 03/012

Photonic communication components

Cod. ARNO 04/012

Ultrafast all-optical switching systems

Cod. ARNO 05/012

Digital photonics systems

Cod. ARNO 06/012

AT THE CNIT RESEARCH UNITS IN PISA

Software Engineering

Cod. ARNO 07/012

In the following topics:

Cod. ARNO 01/012: "The activity will be focused on solutions for network planning, management techniques, algorithms for the control plane of optical networks supporting next generation services"

Cod. ARNO 02/012: “Theoretical and simulation activities in the framework of Free Space Optics (FSO) communications, related to receiver and transmitter models,  numerical simulations of lightwave propagation, and advanced communications techniques for FSO communication"

Cod. ARNO 03/012:“The activity will be focused on the study and implementation of algorithms for signal processing (through coding and decoding) and detection in fiber optic communication systems based on coherent detection”

Cod. ARNO 04/012:“The research activity will be focused on integrated photonic devices for optical transmission and switching in transport and access networks. The research activity is mainly focused on the invention and design of new technological solutions for optical switching nodes, characterized by a small dimensions, low power consumption and high integration level of several network features on the same chip”

Cod. ARNO 05/012:“The research activity is focused on the design, experimental implementation and optimization of coherent optical transceiver based on complex modulation formats and coherent technologies. The objectives include maximization of spectral efficiency and transmission robustness with respect to linear and nonlinear propagation impairments”

Cod. ARNO 06/012:“Development of flexible, reconfigurable and high capacity transport node subsystems in metro and core area, suitable for the increasing network resource demand. Electro-optical and all-optical solutions based on new generation photonic devices and ability to process amplitude/phase modulated multilevel signals will be investigated”

Cod. ARNO 07/012:”The activity will deal with the software engineering for the creation and use of a user-friendly library, with high-level user interfaces, composed of various specialised software written or to be written by others, also with different programming languages, for efficient electromagnetic design of integrated photonic circuits, possibly based on parallel codes and/or multicore computation structures, and for the design of masks for the technological realisation of single components and the whole chip”

The contract annual salary is 24,000.00 Euro gross, paid monthly, in equal installments in arrears.

CNIT reserves the right to increase the number of contracts for each code at its discretion, in case of corresponding budget availability. The contracts described in this announcement may be renewed for an additional year at the discretion of CNIT.

Candidates must hold a M.S. degree (awarded before the expiry of this announcement) or an equivalent degree in the area of information engineering (telecommunications, electronics, informatics) or in physics or in mathematics or in information science or in engineering mathematics or in engineering physics. The application, prepared according to the model downloaded from the website www.cnit.it, must include the items listed below and must be sent by 10.11.2011.

The application and related documentation must be submitted in electronic form and partly in paper form, as specified below.

The ELECTRONIC SUBMISSION of the application must be e-mailed to contrattiARNO-2012@cnit.it, also providing the following documents, in electronic form:
