The press conference regarding the opening of the CNIT laboratory at the Dogana d’Acqua complex in Livorno was held on April 26th in the presence of Mayor Luca Salvetti and Councilor Barbara Bonciani.

CNIT joins the other research bodies already operational in the complex: the Ministerial Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA), which in Livorno has the experimental department for the assessment of ecological risk in coastal marine areas, the monitoring area, and the biological area; the Institute of Mechanical Intelligence at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna; and, shortly, the National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics.

The JLAB, founded in 2015 by CNIT and the Port Authority of the Northern Tyrrhenian Sea (AdSP MTS), framed within the National Laboratory of Photonic Networks and Technology located in Pisa (PNTLAB), defines and implements a digital agenda for the development of innovative services and applications for new generation ports.

The laboratory experiments with cutting-edge technologies, such as 5G, Photonic Systems, Cooperative ITS, IoT and Blockchain and features a private cloud that provides prototype services in four application areas: (i) digital and autonomous navigation, (ii) eFreight, (iii ) passenger transport and (iv) environmental monitoring and control.

Since March 2023, in partnership with ESA and the Italian Coast Guard, the technologies and functions to support autonomous navigation are being developed in the Shore Control Center prototype installed at the laboratory.
