TLC GAMES: the Telecommunications Olympics
As part of the RESTART program, CNIT is organizing Italy’s first national telecommunications competition
Funded through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) in pursuit of Mission 5 (“Education and Training Activities”), RESTART is the most significant public research and development initiative that the Italian telecommunications industry has ever seen. One of RESTART’s ambitious goals is to create a new generation of telecommunications engineers by introducing young people to the world of telecommunications and helping them to grasp how crucial and widespread it is today.
Telecommunications has become an established, prominent part of our everyday lives in many forms: from the internet to satellite or microwave transmissions; from the Internet of Things to remote control in home automation systems; from efficient smartphone antenna design to satellites for monitoring the planet’s weather. Long-distance big data transmission is now a key driving force behind the economies of the world’s most developed countries.
The ultimate aim of the initiative is to get students from schools of all kinds to develop an interest in telecommunications and perhaps study it at university. There are numerous career opportunities in the field and the employment rate, remuneration and scope for professional development are all outstanding. According to AlmaLaurea figures from 2023, after one year 91% of graduates had found employment, with an average net monthly income of approximately €2000.
Thanks to gamification, young people will discover the interesting challenges that the telecommunications world must tackle in order to lead us into an increasingly technological, efficient and interconnected future. The three top teams in the competition will win a cash prize and an experience to share with their teammates.
